Construction on new Auburn I-85 exit completed

AUBURN, AL - Construction on the new I-85 interchange that will provide improved access to the Auburn Technology Park has been completed. The new I-85 Exit 50 is open to traffic the Alabama Department of Transportation announced today.

The new $18.3 million interchange will provide easier access for truck traffic utilizing the industrial park and will provide future economic development opportunities. Auburn Technology Parkway now ties into U.S. Highway 29 at County Road 10.

War Eagle Way closing for underground wiring

AUBURN, AL - The City of Auburn has been informed that Auburn University will close War Eagle Way from 5:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 25. 

The closure is necessary for the placement of underground wiring. The sidewalk will be open on the south side of War Eagle Way; the north side will be unavailable to pedestrian traffic. 

Roadwork on Glenn Avenue to be completed by the end of August

Auburn recognized for bicycle safety

AUBURN, AL - The League of American Bicyclists has again named Auburn a Bronze Level Bicycle Friendly Community (BFC). This award recognizes Auburn’s commitment to improving conditions for bicycling through an investment in bicycling promotion, education programs, infrastructure and pro-bicycling policies.

Auburn is the only municipality in Alabama to be named a Bicycle Friendly Community. The BFC program urges communities to evaluate their quality of life, sustainability and transportation networks, while allowing them to benchmark their progress toward improving their bicycle-friendliness. Auburn is one out of 214 BFC designated cities in 47 states across the nation.

Travel With Care Week to Drive Home Transportation Safety

AUBURN, AL - The City of Auburn, Auburn University, the Auburn Police Division, and the Lee County Sheriff’s Office are partnering to launch a safety and alternative transportation awareness campaign, Travel With Care, during the week of March 19-23. The campaign encourages motorists, cyclists, pedestrians, transit riders and commuters using other forms of transportation to make safety their first priority on the road. As indicated in the campaign’s tag line, “however you go, go safely,” the importance of observing traffic laws while respecting all modes of transportation is a major emphasis of the campaign’s message.

Free Metered-Parking Available Downtown March 12 to 16

AUBURN, AL - Free metered-parking will be available in downtown Auburn starting Monday, March 12 through Friday, March 16. In addition to on-street parking available throughout downtown, parking can be found on and surrounding the first floor of the Auburn Municipal Parking Deck, accessible from both Gay Street and Tichenor Avenue.

City to Make Sewer Improvements to Opelika Road, Toomer Street Areas

AUBURN, AL - The City of Auburn will be completing necessary sanitary sewer main improvements on Opelika Road from North Gay Street to Perry Street and between Glenn Avenue and Magnolia Avenue east of Toomer Street beginning Wednesday, February 15.  

Work on Opelika Road will take place primarily within the center lane of traffic.
