Auburn City Council Member announces Primary Run for Commission

AUBURN, AL - Auburn city councilwoman Sheila Eckman announced her candidacy for Lee County Commission, District 1, which encompasses the northwest corner of the county, including all of her current City Council ward, Ward 2.

“I meant to finish out this term on Council,” says Eckman, “but I’ve seen how much of our tax money goes through the County coffers, seen how County decisions impact Auburn citizens, and I have a concern about the need for more transparency on County Commission.  Much of my current city ward, Ward 2, actually abuts the County.”

Congressman Mike Rogers made the following statement today in response to President Obama’s proposed plan to drawdown U.S. Forces in Afghanistan.

“Success in stabilizing Afghanistan is crucial to our national security.  I would like to bring our troops home as much as anyone, but we must do it the right way.  The sacrifices our brave men and women in uniform have made in Afghanistan have helped bring greater stability there, and must not be jeopardized by any withdrawal plan based on political expediency and not the real-world decisions of our commanders on the ground.”
