Fashion executive and JetBlue corporate officer to speak at Auburn University spring commencement

AUBURN UNIVERSITY – Two successful corporate executives will be guest speakers at Auburn University during spring commencement in the Auburn Arena on Saturday and Sunday, May 4-5. Approximately 3,359 new graduates will receive diplomas.

Commencement ceremonies will be streamed online, and can also be viewed on mobile devices through the website or the Ustream app.

AUBURN UNIVERSITY – Auburn University and the Southeastern Conference announced today that Professor Pradeep Lall of the Samuel Ginn College of Engineering has been honored with the SEC’s Auburn University Faculty Achievement Award for 2012-2013.

Lall, the T. Walter Professor of Mechanical Engineering and director of the Center for Advanced Vehicle and Extreme Electronics at Auburn, will receive a $5,000 honorarium, and he becomes Auburn’s nominee for the SEC Professor of the Year, who will be selected from 14 nominees representing SEC universities.

Auburn football player Michael McNeil pleads guilty to robbery

Former Auburn University football player Michael McNeil has avoided trial by pleading guilty to robbery. 

The judge sentenced McNeil to 15 years in prison.  He will serve at least three years behind bars, followed by three years of probation upon his release.

McNeil is one of four former players that have been charged in a residential hold-up.

AUBURN UNIVERSITY – Award-winning journalist and Auburn alumna Rheta Grimsley Johnson will give the 2013 New Horizons Lecture Tuesday, April 9, at 2 p.m. in Auburn University’s Langdon Hall auditorium.

The veteran newspaper reporter and columnist’s career spans 42 years, and has garnered awards such as the Scripps Howard Ernie Pyle Award for feature writing, and the American Society of Newspaper Editors’ Distinguished Writing Award for Commentary. In 1991, she was one of three finalists for the Pulitzer Prize for Commentary.

Long-serving Auburn police officer promoted to captain

AUBURN, AL - One Auburn Police lieutenant has earned a promotion. He will also be taking over the Patrol Section of the department.

Lt. Cedric Anderson will assume the rank of Captain on Jan. 1. He is taking over the duties of Capt. James Tatum who is retiring to become Probate Judge of Bullock county.
