Council reviewing dog licensing requirements

AUBURN, AL - At the Jan. 8 Council meeting, the Auburn City Council will consider the second reading of an ordinance replacing the “Animals and Fowl” chapter of the City Code.

If the ordinance passes, dog licensing requirements in the City of Auburn will be eliminated.

Instead of requiring dog owners to show proof of rabies vaccination through licensing, the City will instead enforce rabies vaccination issues through sections 3-7A-2 and 3-7A-6 of the Code of Alabama, which establishes that all dogs over 3 months old shall be inoculated against rabies and that dog owners shall maintain written copies of vaccination certificates issued by veterinarians.

Since dog licenses will not be required if the ordinance passes, citizens are advised to wait until further notice to renew dog licenses.
