Take home a furry friend during national Adopt-a-Shelter Dog Month

AUBURN, AL - The Lee County Humane Society is very excited about national Adopt-a-Shelter Dog Month and wants you to get excited too.

They're celebrating by discounting the adoption processing fee for all adult dogs for the remainder of October.

The adoption processing fee for all dogs older than four- months-old, will be $50.

“We are excited to promote adult dog adoptions in our community and hope to find more homes for dogs during the month of October than we are able to do on a regular basis,” said LCHS Executive Director Bobbi Yeo.

The Humane Society says there are many benefits to adopting an older dog. Adult dogs are easy to train, require less attention than puppies, and settle into new families very quickly.  By adopting an older dog, you are giving a second chance to a dog who may have been overlooked, not properly cared for, or forgotten about.

In order to adopt a dog during Adopt-a-Shelter Dog Month, you will need a copy of a valid driver’s license or government issued identification. All adopters will need to complete the one-page LCHS adoption application. LCHS strongly encourages all pet adopters to have any current pets spayed or neutered and up-to-date on vaccinations. The shelter also recommends paying all applicable pet deposits before adopting. LCHS will send a letter to all landlords notifying them of their tenant’s new adoption, if an adopter rents their home.

All dogs adopted at LCHS will be required to leave the shelter with a collar and leash.  Lupine leashes and collars are available for sale at the shelter.  All proceeds benefit the shelter pets and the products come with a lifetime warranty.
