Suspect crashes stolen car trying to run from police

AUBURN, AL - Auburn Police finally caught up with a suspected car thief after a short chase, both on the road and on foot.

Police say a patrol officer spotted a reportedly stolen car around 2:15 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 9.

The officer pulled over the 2007 Audi A3 on Wire Rd, but the driver, Deaundre Cobb, took off right after the officer made contact with him.

The car chase didn't last long because Cobb crashed into a tree in the nearby Kuderna Acres neighborhood while trying to escape.

Cobb and a female passenger quickly got out of the car and ran into the woods.

Police began searching for the suspects, even calling in a K-9 unit.

After about two hours of searching, the pair was spotted in the 1400 block of Talhiem St.

The female was immediately taken into custody, but Cobb tried to keep running. Officers chased him down and took him to the Lee County Detention Center.

Cobb's bond was set at $12,500. He is charged with first degree theft of property, unlawful breaking and entering a vehicle, second degree theft of property, two counts of fleeing or attempting to elude police, and resisiting arrest.

Cobb is also the suspect in a vehicle burglary reported to police on November 1. That crime occurred in the 400 block of North College Street.

The female passenger in the incident was not charged.
