US Postal Service prepares to "Stamp Out Hunger" Saturday

AUBURN, AL (WTVM)- For the 21st year, the U.S. Postal Service will partner with the National Association of Letter Carriers to support Feeding America for the Stamp Out Hunger food drive on Saturday.

"We will deliver a sack or a bag to each customer, the customer can locate the sack in their mailbox. They can fill the sack with nonperishable food items, place it at your mailbox and the carrier will pick up the sacks," explains Auburn Postmaster John Johnson.

After accumulating all donations, carriers will deliver it to the East Alabama Food Bank.

Going the extra 10,000 miles for autism

The little Learning Tree in Auburn is just one of the unique learning environments across the state, doing amazing things for  about 150 children with autism and other developmental challenges and their families.

At three years old, Sofia, has no idea her role at The Little Tree pre-school in Auburn is just as important as the dedicated teachers.

PGA golfer helps fight hunger in Auburn

AUBURN, AL (WTVM)- PGA pro golfer Jason Dufner
and his wife Amanda are tackling hunger among school children in Lee County.

The couple, who live in
Auburn, visited Carver on Tuesday, one of two schools they are helping in this
area.

The pro golfer teamed up
with Auburn University to send bags of food home every Friday to 275 children
in Lee County.

AU students get the Ziploc
bags ready, then teachers discreetly put them in the children's back packs on Friday
at recess so they can have meals that would otherwise be scarce for them on the
weekends.

GE Aviation hosts ribbon cutting in Auburn

AUBURN, AL (WTVM)- Alabama governor Robert Bentley praised the states' work force and pro business climate at the ribbon cutting at GE Aviation's new manufacturing facility in Auburn on Monday.

News Leader 9's Elizabeth White covered the ribbon cutting and reports even before the bow hit the ground in front of the massive manufacturing facility, there was talk of an expansion and adding even more new, high paying jobs.

Even before the CEO of GE Aviation cut the ribbon to the new facility, he was already talking about adding more jobs and an expansion.

Students continue fight to keep aviation program in the air

Fitness guru Richard Simmons has joined the crusade to save AU's aviation program.

AUBURN, AL (WTVM)- Student leaders of Auburn's Aviation Management program met with the Provost and Dean of the college Monday to discuss the future of the program.

"To be honest it's kind of in their hands right now with their supposed to do, however, Dean Hardgrave also has a meeting coming up on May 6 with the Aviation Management Advisory Board and we're to get answers from that meeting," explains AU Aviation student, David Hoebelheinrich.

Over the past month, students, alumni, and even celebrities have supported the fight to save the program.
