AU counseling center plans for higher demand

AUBURN, AL (WTVM)- The Auburn University Counseling Service center, located on second floor of the AU Medical Clinic, has been helping students for decades.

According to the American college Counseling Association, 92 percent of campus counseling centers surveyed in 2012 says the number of students seeking help has increased in recent years.

AU counseling professionals say the demand is no different on campus.

Community reacts to new women's health law

AUBURN, AL (WTVM)- Governor Robert Bentley signed the Women's Health and Safety Act on Tuesday, a measure said to improve and strengthen the standards of care at women's clinics in Alabama.

The signing of the Woman's Health and Safety Act has the both sides of the abortion debate mobilized.

The new law requires abortion clinics to use doctors who have approval to admit patients to hospitals in the same city, and clinics will now be held to the same standards as all ambulatory care centers. Higher building standards will also be required.

AUBURN UNIVERSITY – Auburn University and the Southeastern Conference announced today that Professor Pradeep Lall of the Samuel Ginn College of Engineering has been honored with the SEC’s Auburn University Faculty Achievement Award for 2012-2013.

Lall, the T. Walter Professor of Mechanical Engineering and director of the Center for Advanced Vehicle and Extreme Electronics at Auburn, will receive a $5,000 honorarium, and he becomes Auburn’s nominee for the SEC Professor of the Year, who will be selected from 14 nominees representing SEC universities.

Lee Co. ranks low for resident per capita spending

LEE COUNTY, AL (WTVM)- The Lee County Commission has released an annual report on the amount of the County's revenue spent per resident for primary services.

At first glance the numbers do not appear positive; however, this comparison is not a fair indicator of the financial health of the county.

Former AU football player pleads guilty, charged in 2011 armed robbery

AUBURN, AL (WTVM)- A former Auburn University football player will spend the next three years in jail after making a deal with prosecutors.

Michael McNeil was sentenced to a 15 year split Monday after pleading guilty to first degree robbery in a Lee County courtroom.

After his time in prison, he will serve three years probation, pay court costs, a $2,000 fine and $50 to the victim's compensation.
